The next project by my Brother, Armond McFadden. 1410 was another saved bus from the CARTA system in Charleston, SC. Checkout the evolution of this fine piece of history in motion. 1426 “Queen Mary” was the first major project by my Brother Armond McFadden. He has painstakingly brought this bus back to it’s glory. His mission was a complete success. Queen Mary is now in Florida with her new owner. Her new purpose is transporting Seniors to Church. When the weather makes a horrific turn, she is on duty to evacuate Seniors to safe ground. This section is dedicated to my Brother and 1426. All Hail The “Queen Mary”!
The true irony of two buses from the same initial order being reunited in the future is truly a blessing and a joy! Both of these buses started their lives with the Golden Gate Transit System. These buses were part of a fleet of 41 units, numbered 1401-1441. These 40102-D50’s are powered by the Detroit Diesel Series 50 Engine with DDEC III electronic controls and mated to the ZF 5HP-590 5 speed electronic controlled automatic transmission. They were originally delivered from the Flxible factory with seating for 45 passengers and 2 wheelchairs. While at Golden Gate Transit, they had 4 seats removed in order to give passengers more leg room towards the rear of the buses. They now seat 41 passengers.
I started documenting various Flxible METRO’s around the country for years. The Flxible Corporation was iconic in producing Advanced Design Buses right here in America, Delaware, Ohio to be exact. Enjoy this photo journal of Flxible METRO’s from around the country, taken by me, Da’Shawn Garcia-Pretlow. #TheFlxibleMovement
